The University of Hong Kong (HKU) celebrated the inauguration of the Jockey Club Student Village IV on April 3, 2025.  Located in Wong Chuk Hang, the village comprises four student residences, providing a total of 1,238 places.

Powered by Partnership

The new student village was made possible by a generous donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.  Together with its earlier support for the Mui Fong Street Student Residence at Sai Ying Pun, the Club’s Charities Trust has contributed a total of HK$185 million to the development of these two student residential projects, directly addressing the growing demand for student housing.

The donation is a testament to the enduring partnership between the Club’s Charities Trust and HKU in advancing residential education.  Since 2002, the Club’s Charities Trust has played a pivotal role in the development of the Jockey Club Student Villages I, II, III, and now IV.  These student villages, together with the Mui Fong Street Student Residence, provide a vibrant home for over 5,000 students.

In his welcome remarks, HKU President & Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang expressed his profound gratitude to the Club for its enduring support in nearly seven decades. Since its first gift to HKU in 1957, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been an invaluable partner in advancing the growth of HKU.  Thanks to its generous support, HKU has pioneered research, nurtured global talent, improved lives through healthcare innovation, and cultivated vibrant student communities through residential education.

Mr Lester Huang, Steward of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “This is the fourth residential complex to be part-funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for The University of Hong Kong. It will add valuable diversity to our student community and further Hong Kong’s development into an international education hub.”

A Global Village, A Sustainable Future

The Jockey Club Student Village IV accommodates over 1,200 undergraduate and postgraduate students from over 60 countries and regions.  Featuring co-living design, the village offers communal facilities such as a fitness and exercise room, co-working space and mindfulness studio to promote wellness and social connections.  Smart living technologies are integrated for sustainability and eco-friendly living.

Outstanding MiC Projects

The student village also represents a significant milestone in construction innovation.  As one of the pilot Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) projects nominated by the Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, it has received numerous awards, including the “Outstanding MiC Projects” award at the MiC Achievement Ceremony in 2022.

HKU spares no effort in continuously driving innovation and support for the sustainable development of the construction industry through smart and modular construction.
